How some UK retailers have ruined Black Friday

Black Friday is a relatively new event in the UK but has been massive in the United States for many years.

Why we here in the UK have started to take part in Black Friday is a bit confusing really. For those that don’t know, it is an event that takes place for one day only on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

In the USA this makes sense as it’s a national holiday and allows the good folks of the USA the chance to bag some early Christmas gift bargains.

Back to the cold UK!

When Black Friday first came to the United Kingdom you could get some really good deals and these really did only last for 24 hours. A few years ago I managed to pick up a laptop with around 50% off. The next day this went back up to its original price. So it really was a genuine bargain!

Move forward a few years and Black Friday seems to go on for days and in some cases retailers are offering Black Friday week!

The deals that I came across this year seem to be really poor value too.

Just another watered down sale

When it comes to getting a deal, the general public are not stupid and many can now see that Black Friday has become just another never ending D*S sofa sale!

As a result, what was a great way for high street and online retailers to cash in has now gone in my honest opinion.

*** 2023 Update ***

This year Black Friday has been worse than all the others! Not only did most companies start the sales weeks before the big day but they dragged on for just as long after too!

Everything I wrote last year has shown itself again.

Black Friday has just been watered down even more. If this was a pub watering down spirits, you would not be happy.

No doubt they will extend these sales in to December again as well. I cant wait until cyber Monday month begins!
