I’ve recently completed and moved in to my new home (July 2019) and to get away from the awful Avro Energy who were the supplier for the previous owners, I opted to switch to Bulb Energy on a recommendation from my dad! This review aims to help others who might be looking to make the switch to bulb.co.uk
About Bulb
Bulb was founded in April 2013 with the aim to take on the big 6 energy companies! Not only do they offer great rates but 100% of its electricity is from renewable sources. So, you get the best of both worlds by saving money and also helping our planet!
They also only have one simple and easy to understand tariff too which I like. Another great plus point is they do not tie you in to any contracts nor do they have any exit fees if you choose to switch away.
Sign up process
My first impressions of bulb are excellent. The website was easy to read as was the short form that asked a few basic questions. This didn’t ask any heavy questions. Just things like name, address and bank details for the monthly direct debit.
Kept informed during switch
As energy switches take 21 days due to the Ofgem imposed cooling off period, It was nice to have update emails from bulb. Before when I’ve moved energy companies other suppliers don’t keep you updated.
A few days before the switch
Bulb sent me an email to ask for final meter readings for both gas and electricity. This is done online via your bulb.co.uk account. So, no having to phone anyone up!
Switch day!
Around 11am I got an email to say that I’m now a bulb customer or to use the correct term, bulberino! I also got £50 credit added to my account too as I signed up via my dads referral link!
Payments
My first Direct Debit went out as it should and for the correct amount. Also, two days before your payment bulb email you a reminder which is handy when trying to juggle all the bills!
A month later
I submit my first meter readings and this showed my account being in credit by over £100. So, I log in and bulb allowed me to reduce my future payments. Not always easy with energy providers but bulb let you do this without question.
Would I recommend Bulb?
Yes! I’ve been with a number of energy suppliers over the years and Bulb so far are winning for me. The prices are very good and beat the big six vampires by miles.
A quick update…
9 months since joining
2020 has arrived and so has Coronavirus! What a bloody year this is panning out to be. Anyway, here is some good news for a change!
I’ve just had an email from Bulb to inform me that they are reducing gas prices. Yes, you did read that correctly. As they only have one low cost tariff, they alter prices to reflect market conditions and as these have gone down recently they are passing this saving on to customers.
In short, they predict I will be around £70 a year better off.
I will take that thank you very much!
I’ve just done a quick comparison too and Bulb are still looking to be great value. So, here I am still a happy customer.
