I’ve recently moved to a new house and not only does it need some building work doing but it also has a bigger garden. Because of this I decided to get some new work boots to keep my feet safe!
Thanks to my old days of outdoor working, I know the importance of a good pair of boots and can remember how hard it was to find a reliable pair.
So, to help others out I’m going to do a long term review for the Dewalt Bolster Safety Boots. This will tell you my opinions about comfort from brand new right through to reliability going forward.
OK, now time for the review!
I purchased my boots from Screwfix for £39.99 on the 16th May 2019. As ever, the staff at my local branch were happy and helpful!
Some top facts from the Box!
- Dewalt Bolster Safety Boots – Steel Toe Cap
- Non clogging rubber outsole
- Extra padded tongue
- Soft padded PU collar (top of boot!)
- Standard – EN ISO 20345:2011 SB
- Product code: DWF60074-103
Are they comfy Lee?
The short answer is yes! From the second I took them out of the box and put them on for the first time they felt really comfortable. Fast forward a couple of weeks and they now feel like mine!
They are really light-weight too. One day this week I had these on for almost 12 hours and my feet felt OK still by the end.
Do they pass the build Quality test?
I’ve been a Dewalt fan and power tool owner for many years. It is a name that is well known for quality tools and on first looks these safety boots seem to be made really well too.
The stitching all looks to be good and no signs of soles coming away. Ok, I know they are brand new but I’ve had new boots where the sole is about to leave the boot straight out the box.
The laces look like they should last too. Again, other boots I’ve owned in the past have had laces only last a few days!
Get a grip man!
Thanks to the design of the sole, these grip really well. I was strimming the grass bank at my house and this is really steep in places. The Dewalt Bolster boots however coped really well.
Wide fitting
The blurb on the Screwfix site state that they are wide fit. In fact, this was the main reason for my purchase to be honest. I have massive feet which are size 12 UK but they are bloody wide too.
Normally, I find it really difficult to buy shoes that are wide enough for me and to the point that I’ve never found a pair of trainers for the gym that have ever really been wide enough!
However, some good news!
These boots are perfectly wide enough for my monster plates of meat. So, if you have wide feet these should be perfect for you.
Reliability diary
This is the end of my review but please find below an on going updated dairy of how these Dewalt boots are holding up.
Day one
So, it is the 16th May 2019 and this is the first day of my boots!
2 weeks on update
So, it is early days I know but so far, so good. They are now broken in and are super comfy. The laces are still like new and show no signs of breaking like I’ve had with other brands in the past.
3 Months on update
Its now almost September 2019 and I’ve not been keeping up with these updates monthly as I said I would, sorry! Anyways, the boots are still holding up well. They now look like someone has been working very hard in them (I have!) and they are starting to look dirty. This is not a negative on Dewalt as all boots look like this after a while.
The laces are still like new. In the past, other brands of boots I’ve owned have had really crap laces that break within a couple of weeks.
Nothing seems to be splitting or breaking either. So all is good on that front. So, not a lot else to report TBH.
November 2019 update
Autumn is here and this means extra work in the garden clearing leaves and getting things ready for the winter. As usual, thick socks + my boots are on my feet getting abused!
Still no issues, the only change is that they look a bit dirtier but that just means I’ve been working extra hard! 😉
I really am impressed with these boots.
January 2020
Happy New Year people! Just checking in with an update on how I’m getting on with these Dewalt boots.
Over the Christmas holidays I wore my boots while I applied around 80 litres of white paint to the walls and ceilings of new build property! I can confirm that some of this paint has ended up on my boots lol!
However, they are still going strong with no issues. Laces are still good which is a nice surprise. But yeah, they really are proving to be a great buy and that is all I can say really for now!
But, eight months of regular use and they’re showing no signs of wanting to give up just yet.
June 2020 – Last update
I just wanted to add a quick post and mention that I will be closing this review here and now!
The boots are now starting to get to the point that they need replacing. The laces are starting to wear and the inside materiel on the foot bed (bit your feet sits on) is starting to come away.
However, I feel that for under £40 for over a years worth of regular use is more than fair. So much so I’ve just ordered another pair!
I will still use these old boots for really dirty jobs but for everything else will switch to the new ones.
Would I recommend them?
100% yes. To be honest, I could easily get more use out of these boots. However, all footwear has a maximum life and to protect my feet to the full I feel now is the time to upgrade or replace!
I know this review has been a bit boring but I know finding a good pair of boots is not an easy task. Hopefully it has helped at least one person!
Thanks!
